The Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine are the major components of the Johns Hopkins Health System, a vertically integrated, multi-institutional system for medical services delivery. The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical, surgical, oncology, and pediatric patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department, there are 70 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 32 general and specialized pharmacy residents.

Reports to the Assistant Director of Pharmacy for the assigned area. Works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Is responsible for working collaboratively with the health care team to promote wellness, maintain current health, or intervene in acute or chronic illness. Promotes the safe and effective use of medications by consulting with other health care professionals concerning problems and instructs patients and families on their medications. Must receive Maryland pharmacy license within 180 days of being hired.

Minimum Requirements:




  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm D. or BS degree. Completion of an ASHP accredited residency program or equivalent experience is desired.
  • Meets state pharmacy licensure requirements. Must attain a current, valid Maryland pharmacy license in good standing to practice as a pharmacist within 180 days. Intravenous (IV) Certification (includes aseptic technique and hazardous substance handling) within 90 days upon hire.
