Job Summary |
The
College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for an
Inpatient Veterinary Technician to work directly with the
IMC clinicians and rotating intern doctors to help facilitate quality client care and patient flow through the
IMC,
ICU, and ER.
This is a monthly rotating night shift. Monday-Thursday 10 p.m. - 8 a.m. Friday-Sunday 7 p.m. - 8 a.m.

Essential Functions |
- Administers treatments and monitoring of patients admitted in IMC or ICU, Observes and records vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake of animals, and collects and labels specimens and perform treatments and administer medications as prescribed by primary veterinarian.
- Performs, instructs, and demonstrates advanced veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.
- Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving techniques including CPR, mechanical ventilation and dialysis.
- Inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, as well as observes health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.
- Performs emergency triage and stabilization of patients presenting through the Emergency service.
- May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.
- This position will work to provide care for patients after hours, on weekends, and holidays.
May be responsible for training, assisting or assigning tasks to others. |
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications |
Level I: Associate's degree or higher in a technical or scientific field.
Level II: Associate's degree or higher in a technical or scientific field plus 2 years of experience in veterinary medicine.
Level III: Associate's degree or higher in a technical or scientific field plus 4 years of experience in veterinary medicine. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician, OR
have met all requirements to become licensed in the State of Alabama. Licensure must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
Advanced degrees may substitute for years of experience. |
