Responsibilities

  • Oversees the Sterile Processing department and its employees, the GI processes and Orderlies and support to the OR.
  • Responsible for coordination of daily workflow to include decontamination, assembly, preparation/packaging, and sterilization of all surgical instrumentation and reusable supplies.
  • Maintains the reporting of the processing, storage, and distribution of processed supplies and instrumentation based on regulatory standards.
  • Manages department operations, staffing plans and assignments.
  • Plans education programs for staff with the surgical services educator for ongoing departmental competency and new hire onboarding.
  • Ensures staff accountability by timely addressing any needed disciplinary corrective actions following HR policy.
  • Experience in operations of maintenance in proper sterilization of medical supplies and instruments.
  • Accountable to managing the workflow to reduce or eliminate the need for Immediate Use Steam Sterilization (IUSS).
  • Establishes effective working relationships with physicians, peers, surgical staff, and direct reports. Also accountable for inventory management of instruments and supplies necessary for daily operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory standards in the area of Sterile Processing, and a comprehensive knowledge of the principles and application of sterilization of surgical instrumentation, equipment, surgical supplies, and case cart systems. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • 1 year of leadership experience
  • 5 years of Sterile Processing experience
  • National Certification by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution
    • or IAHCSMM (current or within 6 months of hire)
    • or Certified Surgical Tech (CST) with Sterile Processing and Distribution

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Associate's degree
