About the College/Unit/Department
In 2018, The UGA Tifton Campus began a yearlong Centennial celebration with various events to commemorate its 100th anniversary of providing updated research to the community.
Research is done on a wide range of commodities, including cotton, peanuts, vegetables and turf grass, all of which make agriculture the No. 1 industry in Georgia.
In 2004, a teaching program was initiated and it has been growing ever since. College-level instruction on campus is aimed at undergraduate and graduate-degree level study.

Position Summary
The general purpose or nature of this position includes, but is not limited to: coordination of research trials which will include plot plan development, supervise planting and treatment applications, development of standardized data collection methods and a data quality check, in addition to data compilation and analysis. The position may be asked to participate in Extension and outreach trainings, workshops, demonstrations, field days, on-farm research trial development and implementation and visits, and similar activities related to precision agriculture, irrigation, and machinery systems. Service and maintain laboratory, research, and field equipment. Work with the UGA Precision Agriculture team to help Georgia producers on the adoption and implementation of new innovative technologies for their operations, collect remotely sensed data for research sites utilizing tools such as RTK GPS-Based systems, and both manned and unmanned sensor based platforms including unmanned aerial vehicles. Summarize and provide general analysis of research data. Supervision of student employees may be periodically needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Knowledge of AgGIS (Agleader SMS, Farmworks etc desired).
  • Experience in the collection of field research and data collection.
  • Familiarity of agricultural equipment.
  • Knowledge/expertise in production agricultural practices and management of basic Georgia agricultural production.
  • Knowledge of precision agricultural technologies which includes variable-rate technologies, utilization of UAVs.
  • Training in the use of geospatial technologies to include basic understanding of GPS and GIS systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated technical excellence.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Coordination and participation in daily research responsibilities

  • Production practices related to precision agriculture and machinery systems in the state of Georgia.
  • Experimental plot design and implementation.
  • Data collection, compilation and analysis.
  • Aiding a technician or agriculturalist with tillage, planting, spraying, harvest of common crops produced in Georgia.
