The Hemodialysis BioMedical Techincal Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of Hemodialysis/Dialysis technicians, ensuring the proper maintenance of hemodialysis and water treatment equipment, complying with regulations, managing inventory, and fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement. Coordinates all equipment-related activities, oversees other technical staff members, and assures effective and efficient completion. Should be able to leverage technical expertise, leadership abilities, and dedication to patient safety and regulatory compliance. Assumes responsibilities for non-nursing functions of the unit in the absence of the Administrative Director and is required to be available for technical issues and emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

1. Bases all practice on the Association of the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Guidelines for Recommended Practice.
2. Performs all duties related to hemodialysis machine repairs/preventative maintenance and central and portable water treatment systems.
3. Maintains daily systems operations of water treatment and hemodialysis machines.
4. Collects and processes water/dialysate samples and also participates in the evaluation and reporting of quality results in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
5. Develops, coordinates, and monitors all systems and processes related to water treatment and hemodialysis machines.
6. Coordinates and assists the technical staff in the performance of machine repairs and preventative maintenance.
7. Schedules technical staff within the Renal Unit to meet workload requirements.
8. Maintains equipment and supplies needed to perform repairs and maintenance procedures.
9. Coordinates repairs or service calls for equipment that cannot be serviced by technical staff.
10. Performs Quality Assurance reviews and audits to ensure all systems are maintained according to the Department of Health (DOH), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals (JCAHO or JTC), AAMI, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) standards and regulations.
11. Assists in the development of new/revised policies and procedures which reflect current practice.
12. Supervises and leads the Technical Team as pertains to schedule, training, and daily operations.
13. Participates in Network committees, including but not limited to:
a. Water Management Committee
b. Infection Control
14. Participates in Fresenius Medical Care (FMC)/DaVita quality assurance and improvement (QAI) meetings quarterly.
15. Receives and reviews all Biomed-related reports (i.e., cultures, technical issues, etc.) and follows appropriate corrective actions as per the regulatory guidelines.
16. Reviews contracts for renewal (i.e., Spectra Labs).
17. Oversees source water testing for all Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) hospitals bi-annually.
18. Attends all inpatient dialysis Vizient and JTC visits.
19. Conducts an onsite visit for each inpatient a minimum of 2 times per year.
20. Oversees all Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) at HMH dialysis Biomed-related responsibilities and network miscellaneous requirements.
21. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
22. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
23. Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs, pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
2. Minimum of 3-5 years experience as a Hemodialysis/BioMed Equipment Technologist.
3. Minimum of 3-5 years experience in all HMH dialysis-related equipment and systems.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. College Degree.
2. Experience in a supervisory role in the Technical Field.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. Fresenius Biomedical Certification.
2. Fresenius Technical Training on T, K2, and K Hemodialysis Machines.
3. Mar Cor Hemodialysis Water Treatment Systems Training.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

1. Certified Hemodialysis BioMedical Technician (CHBT).
