Research Assistant

The department of Health Behavior and Society is seeking a Research Assistant. Under the direction of Dr. Lauren Parker, the Research Assistant will be primarily responsible for data analysis to include coding and assisting with qualitative interviews. Strong knowledge and skills in behavioral interventions and caregiving of persons living with dementia research is preferred.

The ideal candidates are self-motivated, have strong verbal and written communication skills, excel in building relationships and partnerships with community stakeholders, have strong organizational skills with attention to detail and are able to handle multiple priorities work and meet deadlines. Flexibility, organization and critical thinking skills are essential. Strong knowledge and skills in behavioral interventions and caregiving of persons living with dementia research is preferred.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the project leads, the Research Assistant's responsibilities include but are not limited to,
  • Assists with interviewing participants.
  • Assists with coding and analyzing qualitative data.
  • Collect data including semi-structured interviews and surveys.
  • Input records and data management in systems such as Excel, REDCap, or similar system.
  • Contribute to reports, publications, project summaries and grant proposals.
  • Some relevant experience or interest related to current research projects: aging, dementia, caregiving, behavioral interventions.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong skills in verbal and written communications, technical writing, and note-taking and editing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of database applications (e.g., Excel, Access, Refworks)
  • Adept in effectively communicating through strong oral and writing skills. Experienced in writing and editing professional letters, reports, and documents.
  • Technical qualifications or specialized certifications: Operates personal computer to access email, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software. Utilizes Internet to search for information. Must demonstrate skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other equipment on a frequent basis.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
  • Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Some relevant experience or interest related to current research projects: aging, dementia, caregiving, behavioral interventions.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Ability to move about.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $17.00 - $30.00 HRLY ($23.00 HRLY targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:30 am - 5 pm
