Overview

We are seeking an Animal Care Technician to join our dynamic team! This position works in the barrier operation as part of the team. This position will focus on overall animal care and welfare, production and selection for customer orders, facility upkeep and recordkeeping and procedural duties. The person in this role will need to feel passionate about working with animals, enjoy and excel at organization, and support and maintain a clean, safe and compliant working environment. We are seeking someone that is hardworking, shows attention to detail, takes initiative, has a teamwork mentality and positive attitude.



Responsibilities

    Care for animals including feeding, watering, cleaning, grooming, breeding, and weaning responsibilities alongside routine welfare and environmental checks.
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, maintaining animal cages, pens, rooms, associated areas and equipment.
  • Provide enrichment and socialize (certain species) animals.
  • Provide injections, medication, health samples of animals under veterinary direction.
  • Following strict biosecurity policy and disease prevention processes
  • Collecting and recording data accurately and in line with policies and processes and update inventory management databases
  • Performing physical examination and health checks including sexing and weighing animals
  • Report any welfare concerns promptly.
  • Receiving animals, selecting, and packing animals for delivery; Coordinate order details to include selection, packaging and confirming accuracy.
  • Understanding and compliance of legislation and procedures including Animal Welfare Act guide, Quality, SOPs, EHS and ISO.
  • Completion of mandatory training to ensure capability of all aspects of the role.
  • Time mating animals (if applicable to species).
  • Perform blood draws (if applicable to species).
  • Application of identification (ex. microchipping, tattoo, ear notch, leg rings)
  • Providing weekend/holiday cover as requested/directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.

*this position is for a current opening in our Rabbit department however, reassignment to other species may be required as business demands.

Required

  • Excellent communication skills; must be able to relate complex concepts in a concise and easy to understand manner.
  • Effectively work with peers, leadership, and stakeholders in a productive collaborative environment.
  • Ability to understand and comply with confidentiality and privacy rules and protect company property and confidential information.
  • Able to follow sterile entry procedures and maintain neat, clean and safe conditions.
  • Ability to read and interpret materials and verbally communicate
  • Must be available to work weekends/ holidays on a rotating basis and alternate hours for shipments/imports.
  • TB testing, titer testing, proof of immunity (certain species)
  • Willingness to work overtime when needed

Preferences

1+ years of experience in Animal Care

Degree / Certifications Preferred; ALAT or relative certification

Preference given to relevant work experience.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Ability to push, pull, lift 50 pounds unassisted.

Stand / walk for extended period of time.

Fine manipulation includes handle touch object or tools and ability to handled controls to perform work.

Must be able to work in a barrier without regular contact with outside parties (certain species)
