EMS System Lead Instructor

Licensure:

  • Nurse, Registered (RN)
  • Lead Instructor

Education/Experience Required:

  • Emergency or Critical Care RN with a minimum of 3 years acute care experience
  • 2 years teaching experience with curriculum development
  • Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience with pre-hospital emergency care
  • Administrative and/or project management experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Must demonstrate competence in critical and emergency care. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • CPR instructor, ACLS instructor, PHTLS instructor, PEPP or PALS instructor
  • Ability to competently perform all skills taught within the curriculum
  • Ability to effectively educate adult learners
  • Ability to work independently and be detail-oriented
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, and power point

Major Responsibilities:

Organizes, administers, and supervises the education requirements of the Paramedic Program of the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital EMS System. The Paramedic Program Director/Lead Instructor is responsible for:

1) Designing and developing the curriculum for the program including, but not limited to, the didactic, clinical, psychomotor, and affective domains

2) Performing continuous quality review and improvement of the educational program

3) Meeting state of Illinois, NREMT, and CAAHEP requirements for curriculum compliance and administrative deadlines.

4) Cooperative involvement with the Medical Director, Lead Instructors, contracted faculty, EMSS staff, hospital administration, and EMS system administrators and personnel

5) Measuring effectiveness of the program and having systems in place to demonstrate the effectiveness of the program

6) Determining long range planning and ongoing development of the program

7) Maintaining status as an Illinois State Lead Instructor and Instructor in ACLS, CPR, PHTLS, PALS or PEPP.

8) Designing and delivering Preceptor training annually (field/hospital clinical sites)

9) Having adequate controls in place to evaluate and assure the quality of the delegated responsibilities in the classroom, hospital clinical sites, and in the prehospital internship sites

10) Maintaining all aspects of the program to allow for continued CAAHEP accreditation, including submission of the annual report, RAM, and self-study documents by deadline

11) Conducting the Program Advisory Board meeting twice/year, according to requirements

12) Conducting the admission application, testing, interviewing, and selection process annually

Assumes other responsibilities as needed and indicated by System Coordinator to include, but not limited to, those listed below:

1) Assist teaching in other system education offerings

2) Participation in System meetings and functions

3) Provider customer service

    Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

    • Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Transport of equipment for training and testing. Required to drive to the classroom, hospital Simulation Lab, fire departments, local college, and meetings. Necessary to lift equipment for instruction and class set-up.
    • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds without assistance.
