Provides Lead support for day-to-day staff operations in HIM, to include training new staff, staff outage coverage, and provides HIM system subject matter expertise. Apprises HIM Supervisor of personnel and performance issues. The Lead coordinates oversight and maintenance of both the paper and electronic medical record to support compliance with HIPAA regulations, and to protect the patient medical record for use by clinical and non-clinical staff.



Responsibilities

    Coordinates HIM Specialists in the maintenance of paper and electronic health records that are complete, accessible, timely, and compliant for all Fred Hutch Clinics and Hospital.
  • Assists HIM Supervisor with new employee training and orientation. Assists HIM Supervisor with ongoing document management training classes and meetings.
  • Assists HIM Supervisor with monitoring of productivity and quality.
  • Conducts quality audits and provides feedback and instruction to team members.
  • Identifies and resolves issues or challenges that prevent optimal departmental success.
  • Troubleshoots all software applications in use for HIM.
  • Arranges for and/or provides cross coverage for absences.
  • Participates in on-call coverage for weekends and holidays.
  • Performs all tasks related to scanning of medical records to include prepping, indexing, and quality assurance.
  • Meets productivity standards as determined by HIM leadership.
  • Performs special projects and/or other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate of Arts Degree in Health Information Management or complimentary field of study; or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years in healthcare as lead in healthcare environment.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and with ability to motivate staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with many types of internal and external customers in a flexible, accommodating manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well (in both verbal and written formats) with patients, staff, and providers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health information systems, medical terminology, computer software, and database fundamentals, of ORCA, EPIC, and electronic software systems in use at Fred Hutch.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment based upon departmental policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent work experience.
  • RHIT/RHIA

The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.76 to $42.37 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
