Updated: Apr 12, 2024 The laboratory assistant obtains and processes clinical specimens for testing and pcrfom1s various clerical duties in the clinical laboratory. Assigned job duties arc performed independently and he/she assists other personnel in the operation of the laboratory. He delivers reports to nursing units and communicates with the responsible health care providers via mail, telephone, and fax. He is under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor and Administrative Director, Laboratory. II. TECHNICAL SKILLS/JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS/*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS* Manager Score 1 TELEPHONE SKILLS - Demonstrates hospital telephone etiquette by answering the phones promptly, courteously and identifying dcpa11mcnt and self. 3 TEAM WORK- Promotes positive co-worker relationships through team work and cooperation. Understands and suppo11s the needs of individuals in other departments and promotes conflict resolution. Shares information, work knowledge and experience with coworkers, physicians and students in a non- threatening manner. Offers assistance and promptly responds to requests. 4 PRODUCTIVITY -Maintains high productivity and performs efficiently regardless of whether the work volume is high or low. Appropriately prioritizes work activities. Responds to difficult situations with self-control and a positive attitude. Makes decisions independently and knows when to ask for assistance. 8 Collects blood specimens from outpatients and inpatients of all ages by venipuncture and capillary puncture minimizing trauma to the patient.
