Job Summary

One of the main goals of the Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is to make biospecimens banked at the Sample Processing Laboratory (SPL) / Biospecimen Core (BC) available to researchers who are performing studies related to dementia, aging, and other disorders. To achieve this goal, MAC banks samples from a wide range of studies. These samples are collected to serve the goals of the research study they are collected under, and also to make samples available to other researchers.

The SPL/BC is responsible for both the initial processing of such samples and their posterior biobanking. Incumbent is assigned standard repetitive technical laboratory and/or field experimental procedures and/or receives training in more difficult or specialized procedures to meet the needs of research projects.

The new SPL/BC member will be a key player in both duties. They will need to work with clinical research coordinators to accommodate participant visits into the workload of the SPL, be able to process all samples received in a given day, and track them using the adequate LIM system. In addition, they will need to work closely with their supervisor to fulfill sample requests from internal and external collaborators that require the finding and preparations for shipment of biospecimens banked in our biorepository. In summary, they will perform a wide variety or repetitive laboratory experimental procedures, simultaneously with a variety of non-standard experimental procedures that require ingenuity, resourcefulness, and adaptability to special and constantly changing needs of research in the very specialized field of biospecimen processing. The new team member is expected to make innovative contributions to optimize the process they are involved with.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
