Job Description and Duties

YOU MUST BE A CURRENT STATE EMPLOYEE WITH LATERAL TRANSFER ELIGIBILITY OR HAVE TAKEN AND PASSED AN EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will repair and maintain automotive and heavy maintenance and construction equipment; maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates; to protect and maintain the safety of persons and property; may instruct, lead, or supervise inmates; and to do other related work. This position may be subject to current departmental hiring freeze restrictions.

Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available). SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply.
