Teaching Assistant

Johns Hopkins University, Department of Mathematics, invites applicants for the casual position of Teaching Assistant, Mathematics Program. We seek qualified candidates with expertise in college mathematics, consisting of in-class instruction, student monitoring, and course administration.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Course Design and Implementation

  • Assist the instructor with the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of mathematics courses.
  • Collaborate and consult with faculty on the effective use of Web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and instructional strategies to develop or revise their courses.
  • Provide recommendations for interface design, sequencing of instruction, active learning, and use of assessment activities.
  • Coordinate the development of instructional materials that are functional, informative, engaging, and consistent with sound instructional design principles, including alignment of course objectives with learning activities, instructional resources, and assessments.
  • Utilize multimedia technology and authoring tools to assist in the development of interactive and engaging instructional resources.
  • Manage project timelines and coordinate with team members and partners to meet project deliverables.
  • Apply learning and best practices to processes whenever feasible.

Grading

  • Prepare materials for any live sessions with the class or individual students as needed.
  • Grade coursework assignments in a timely fashion.
  • Respond to student questions via email.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Blackboard, LaTeX, and general best practices in instructional design for online courses.

Physical Requirement

  • Ability to access and transmit information using a computer; dexterity of hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse pad, and other office machinery; ability to communicate regularly via telephone or Skype, email, and face-to-face with internal and external audiences and must be able to exchange accurate and timely information in these settings.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Prior teaching experience in the relevant course content area preferred.


Preferred Qualifications
  • A completed master's Degree in a related field is strongly preferred.

Role/Level/Range: ACRO37.5/03/CE
Starting Salary Range: $19.50 - $27.25 - $35.00 RLY (Commensurate with experience)
Employee group: Casual / On Call
Schedule: Monday - Friday, hours vary between 9am - 5 pm
