Position Description: Wind Tunnel Research Engineer
We are seeking to hire a Wind Tunnel Research Engineer to support our work with NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) in Hampton, VA. The successful candidate selected for this position will work on-site at NASA LaRC supporting the wind tunnel model design group (this is not a remote work position). Broadly speaking the candidate will support pre-test planning and test set-up, test configuration, data acquisition, data reduction, post-processing and analysis of test data, integration with modeling tools, test and analysis data archiving, and test reporting, among other activities. The experimental data collected may utilize, but is not limited to, microphones, acoustic arrays, steady and unsteady surface pressure sensors, Particle Image Velocimetry and Hot-Wire velocimetry data. The candidate will also contribute to software development as needed for configuration control, data acquisition, processing, analysis, integration with modeling tools and data archiving.
The candidate is expected to have excellent time management skills for test configuration planning, experiment execution, disciplined documentation techniques and standard lab record keeping, as well as timeliness in data reduction, reporting of raw experimental or data reduction/analysis results. The candidate must also have ability to communicate findings clearly verbally or in writing.
Requirements:


  • B.S. In Aerospace, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical Engineering, Physics or related fields with hands on laboratory/test equipment handling.
  • Understanding of aerodynamics principles and experimental techniques for data acquisition and analysis
  • Software development in LabVIEW for analog, digital, or mixed systems signal processing and embedded systems interfacing, automation and control.
  • MATLAB, IDL, Python or similar data analysis software
  • 2+ years of relevant experience post-graduation or recent graduate with demonstrated internship or lab work experience in similar laboratory settings like Internship experience at NASA Langley Research Center or any other NASA center, or university/commercial/private industry.
  • This position will be conditioned on ability to obtain NASA credentials and public trust background investigation for access to a federal facility and requires US citizenship or US Permanent Residency at minimum.
