General Notes

Primary work location is in the heart of the UT campus in the iconic Gregory Gym. Frequently work additional hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends. Occasional holiday work. Occasional interstate and intrastate travel. Continuously adhere to the department's Vision, Mission and Values, Communication Credo and Performance Standards. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship. Position is exempt Administrative & Professional (A&P), and subject to annual renewal.

Purpose

Assist with the management of the Gregory Gym Aquatic Complex including the equipment, capital projects, policies and procedures, events and personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, mentor, supervise, schedule, and evaluatea part-time studentlifeguarding staff to oversee the Gregory Gym Aquatic Complex.
  • Oversee daily operations: monitor the Gregory Gym Aquatic Complex and equipment usage, coordinate Informal Recreation activities, conduct inspections and risk management assessments, develop and implement systems.
  • Provide on-site coordination of special events and RecSports' programs: arrange services, coordinate set-up and take-down, provide event supervision, technical support and evaluation, operate equipment, and work with event sponsors in planning and conducting events.
  • Develop, interpret, and apply policies and procedures as they relate to the use of the Aquatic Complex, and consult with and respond to participant questions and concerns.
  • Work closely with the Instructional Programs Assistant Director to schedule Safety Education courses for Facility Operations. Also assist the Instructional Program in scheduling various water related classes. Oversee Facility Operations compliance with various CPR and AED certifications, bloodborne pathogen training and fire extinguisher compliance.
  • Review Facility Operations injury and incident reports and coordinate communication with Facility Managers as necessary.
  • Research, purchase, inventory, and distribute aquatic sports equipment and supplies.
  • Serve on departmental and national committees and be involved in professional organizations. Participate in goal-setting and future direction planning, write proposals and give presentations, and keep abreast of developments in the recreational sports profession and issues on campus that affect the department.
  • Serve in a back-up role for other Director I positions within Facility Operations, work on special projects and perform other tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and experience in a college-level recreational sports program.Experience in aquatic facility administration, event coordination, personnel administration and/or managing recreation programs. A successful candidate possesses exceptional interpersonal, mentoring, leadership, motivational, accountability, time management and multi-tasking skills. Ability to think critically and strategically. Excellent written and verbal communication, public relations, organizational and planning skills. Technical proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Recreation, Sports Administration, Student Personnel Administration or closely related field. A two-year graduate assistantship in campus recreation. Experience in a university level recreational sports program similar in size and scope of UT Austin. Lifeguarding, first aid or CPR/AED certifications. LGI certification. AFO or CPO certification. Ability to certify Involvement with NIRSA.

Salary Range

$59,800 - $66,500+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Typical office environment. Exposure to dust, alarms, large crowds, and noise (including construction noises). May work around chemical fumes when gym floors are being refinished. Work around chemicals. Lift and move up to 50 pounds (pool chemicals & equipment). Outside work with exposure to pools. This position is designated as an essential worker and may be called in to work unexpectedly. Work under stress, under deadlines, as a team member, independently, with interruptions and with overlapping projects.
