Senior Accountant - Accounting Services

As a Senior Accountant at United Rentals, you are responsible for performing monthly accounting activities for United Rentals operations throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. You will also perform general ledger account reconciliations, monthly close tasks, and providing accounting support to field operations and corporate as necessary.

Responsibilities will also include the following:
  • Perform monthly close processes and account reconciliations in support of the monthly close process
  • Perform advanced/complex balance sheet account reconciliations; explain period fluctuations and research/clear account transactions, as necessary, with minimal assistance
  • Serve as a back-up to Staff Accountant I and Staff Account IIs on various monthly close processes and account reconciliations
  • Create/Update instructions for current procedures/processes
  • Provide assistance to regions, districts and branches for accounting matters
  • Respond to more complex inquiries from the field on accounting matters
  • Perform complex ad hoc analyses
  • Perform collection of accounting data as necessary and preparation of special reports, as requested
  • Provide financial data to fulfill both internal and external requests for financial data efficiently
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, communicate to management, and demonstrate how that adds value to company
  • Act as a resource/mentor and provide training to more junior-level staff members.
  • Other duties assigned as needed


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Degree in Accounting or Finance or comparable work experience
  • CPA/CMA designation or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years public and/or private accounting experience required; experience in Sarbanes- Oxley-related work preferred
  • Strong PC skills w/proficiency in Excel, Word, Access and financial accounting software;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to multi-task and shift priorities as necessary
