The History Department at Marist College invites applications for a one year Visiting Assistant Professor of History with a specialization in American history to begin in August 2023. The successful candidate will be able to teach at least one of our three American history survey courses - American History I, American History II, and America Since 1945. The successful candidate may teach additional courses in their specialty area, and we are especially interest in candidates with expertise in American environmental history or public health history. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates is required.

Minimum Qualifications:
|
A master's degree in history is required. A successful candidate who is hired with a master's degree will be hired as a Visiting Lecturer of History. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness is required.

Essential Functions:
|
The teaching load will be a 4-4 course load. Faculty are expected to hold office hours and attend departmental and school meetings.
|
Preferred Qualifications:
|
A Ph.D. in history is desired.

About the Department/School:

The History Department includes 10 faculty and offers an optional Public History concentration. Many history majors are also enrolled in our five year Master's Degree in Teaching program. The department contributes substantially to our interdisciplinary programs in Africana Studies, American Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. The History Department is housed in the School of Liberal Arts, which includes departments in English, modern languages & cultures, philosophy & religious studies, and political science. The School of Liberal Arts is also home to the Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership and the Hudson River Valley Institute.
