Vice President, Transaction Liability Risk

The VP, Transaction Liability Risk is responsible for designing and implementing risk management strategies for business and retail deposit and payment products. This individual will align risk strategies with organizational initiatives by enhancing Civic's deposit portfolio growth, quality, and profitability. The VP, Transaction Liability Risk will create key differentiators for Civic's deposit and payment products, stay up-to-date on the competitive landscape, and oversee the first-line risk management framework to support the member's digital payment experience.

Normal Day-to-Day Work

  1. Design, develop, and implement transactional liability risk strategies to support Civic's deposit and payment products. Align strategic initiatives and risk frameworks to the long-term strategy and goals of the credit union based on the overall Credit Union Risk Management strategy.
  2. Manage and regularly report risk performance trends and industry comparisons of the deposit, money movement and payments products. Develop and implement practices, policies, and metrics and lead the Operations department in identifying, understanding and mitigating payments risk based on the Credit Union's first-line liability risk management framework.
  3. Identify trends, themes and tendencies that indicate emerging transactional risks by reviewing trends and relevant metrics and root cause of transactional risk losses. Analyze various data sources to form an independent assessment/opinion of transactional risk and present key findings and recommendations to Risk Management for review.
  4. Ensure the deposit and payments risk management policies and strategies follow regulatory compliance expectations and strategic imperatives of the risk framework based on the Credit Union's Risk Management strategy. Develop standards to ensure the overall deposit quality, profitability, and growth goals are consistently achieved.
  5. Maintain a deep knowledge and understanding of our members' needs, latest technology advancements, and business objectives to develop a leading digital risk management infrastructure roadmap in support of the credit union's vision.
  6. Drive continual research and discovery of innovative digital risk management practices and effective solutions that anticipate the changing needs of credit union members and competitive forces.
  7. Lead the Transactional Liability Risk business unit and align team initiatives with the organization's strategic vision. Oversee performance and effective management of staff members. Develop team roadmaps to achieve departmental goals.
  8. Participate in cross-functional initiatives to support a high-performance transactional liability risk management framework. Lead and influence collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Qualifications

Here are a few skills you MUST have to be considered for this position.

  1. Minimum 7-9 years' experience in payments and transactional liability risk management.
  2. Minimum 3-5 years' experience developing strategies to support risk frameworks, including 3-5 in management.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in risk management and a deep understanding of digital retail, business, and card payment products.
  4. Ability to function in a Consumer business office environment and utilize standard office equipment including but not limited to: PC, copier, telephone, etc.
  5. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. (file boxes, computer printer).
  6. Travel required on occasion.

  1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field.
  2. Experience researching and developing digital deposit risk management products and services at a financial institution.
  3. Knowledge of digital financial products and services.
