Analyst II - Data Quality

An Analyst II - Data Quality in the Office of Achievement and Accountability's Knowledge Management department is responsible for supporting the planning, development and implementation of processes and protocols for various state reporting processes and well as other district and federal reporting and analysis. The Analyst assists with the development of presentations, policy briefs and proposals related to data quality and reporting at the district and school level. The Analyst conducts research and data analysis that informs policies and practices implemented at City Schools. The Analyst serves as a liaison with other City Schools' departments and MSDE on data quality and reporting initiatives.


Essential Functions



  • Performs data analysis to identify trends, successes, problems, and issues that need to be addressed through targeted technical support, training, modifications to policies and procedures.
  • Works across departments to resolve any discrepancies in student data submitted for various MSDE reporting requirements.
  • Completes ad hoc analyses requested by leadership using the data collected and reported on annually.
  • Train's school and district office staff on data collection and cleansing best practices.
  • Collaborates with Academics and Information Technology to ensure that data collection and reporting occurs according to local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Surfaces key policy questions by creating statistical and narrative reports based on data and/or graphs.
  • Develops project plans for the collection, monitoring, reporting, and use of student, school, and district level data, including demographics, student course enrollment and grades, assessment participation and outcomes, and demographic and behavior data.
  • Assists with the development of the strategic plan for the Data Quality team; including the communication, timelines, training, and process improvement plans related to State reporting and improving data quality in the district.
  • Engages stakeholders, including school data quality contacts, principals, and district office colleagues, in identifying areas for growth and improvement in data quality.
  • Manages project plans and schedules required to successfully complete all data quality projects on time.
  • Serves as a team member that demonstrates flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in social science, economics, education, mathematics, or other related field, with course concentration in statistics, measurement, and/or data analysis. Degrees must be from an accredited college or institution. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience in an education or research related setting, including managing data sets and project planning.
  • Experience in quickly summarizing and reporting data, including experience in data management, data cleansing, analysis and report writing demonstrated by fluency with statistical programming packages (R preferred), and/or advanced Microsoft Excel skills (including pivot tables, lookup procedures and complex formulas with nested logic).
  • Advanced knowledge of MSDE data processes and procedures preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in high?paced environment, with deadlines, and multiple stakeholder viewpoints.
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in teams.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, and policies affecting City Schools' educators.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; capable of effectively communicating with a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management principles and practices.
  • Ability to demonstrate dedication to the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of City Schools so that each child will succeed.
