This position will report to the Rail Superintendent and support the operations and mechanical upkeep of the railyard.

Covanta is seeking a dedicated and reliable individual who will be responsible to perform preventative and corrective maintenance to rail containers and other mobile equipment, along with operating heavy equipment (i.e. tractor/tip trailers, reach stacker, frontend loader and forklift.)

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with repairing steel containers, cut, weld, and fabricate with metal, repair hinges and replace seals.

  • Diagnose and repair mobile equipment and other company vehicles as needed.

  • Perform all levels of preventative maintenance services.

  • Operate off-road tractor trailer units transporting and emptying the intermodal containers.

  • Complete daily inspections and maintain equipment in a clean and safe condition.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED (General Education Degree).

  • Two (2) years of industry related experience repairing and restructuring intermodal equipment, including Containers.

  • The ability to read, understand apply information such as OSHA lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, and procedure manuals.

  • Must have the ability to stay alert while sitting for long periods of time, work in close quarters and confined spaces, climb ladders, tolerate heights and extreme temperatures, and capable to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to complete work orders and detail repair work electronically.

  • Must always maintain a clean and safe work environment by cleaning, organizing, removing safety hazards, oil spills, spare parts, etc. within the work area.

  • CDL License is not required, but preferred.

  • Experience driving and backing tractor trailer trucks.

  • Ability to wear full face respirator and lift 50lbs.

  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, outages, and alternating shifts.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Must be willing to perform additional duties as assigned, such as supporting rail operations and facility shutdowns.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.

  • Knowledge of proper container repair standards and procedures.

  • Experience with driving on and or off road tractor trailer units.

The expected hourly pay rate for this position is $26.54.

This is a good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position. The final salary figure will take into account a variety of factors including experience, ability and location. Covanta is committed to paying its staff equitably, and these ranges should not be considered career salary limits or caps.
