Post Doctoral Scholar

University of Central Florida
remote work
United States, Florida, Orlando
April 27, 2024

Help us rethink the written word by investigating the perceptual and psychophysical underpinnings of digital text. The ideal candidate would be a recently-finished (or about to finish) PhD in Psychology or Vision Science, with extensive training in psychophysical and behavioral methods for vision science experiments. Candidates with related backgrounds (e.g., Human Factors, Applied Psychology) may be considered if they have appropriate skills and expertise.

You will need to move locally to support in-laboratory research. You will work directly with scientists at Google, Adobe, and other Fortune 500 companies to design, execute, analyze, and disseminate programmatic research. We need an individual with a record of authoring journal publications, as well as strong verbal communication skills.

We use Python, Psychopy and R in our research, and deploy studies both in-person and online (using Prolific and Pavlovia) in our work, and experience with these platforms is desirable. Eyetracker experience, especially in naturalistic settings, is also very helpful. A skillset in statistical analysis and/or machine learning data analysis is a plus, and candidates with expertise in typography, graphic design, web design, advertising, publishing, or other experience with the layout and presentation of the written word are strongly encouraged to note this in their materials. An interest in, or experience with augmented reality is also an asset. The successful candidate for this job will have plentiful opportunities to develop their skills in grant writing to both the public sector (e.g., state/federal funding) as well as with private sector partners.
