Job Summary

The successful new hire will be able to balance their vital role in the major gift fundraising effort. Under the direction of our Senior Directors, and other major campus stakeholders, these roles will manage and triage workflow supporting frontline staff so that they are spending optimal time setting gift strategies, calling on or interacting directly with prospects, and working with senior academic leaders and faculty to advance goals.

Department Description

Clinical Specialties Development: Working primarily with grateful patients, the Clinical Specialties team staffs a broad range of clinical units (and their research and education programs,) including medical and surgical specialties as well as health equity and research centers across the School of Medicine (SOM). We are a team of collaborative and independent fundraising professionals who are donor-centric and represent University priorities and faculty vision in our work. Many of our top donors and volunteers entered UCSF through the clinical units we staff.

School Development Team: Responsible for the creation and execution of a strategic vision to secure transformative philanthropic support from alumni and friends for students, faculty, research and programs in the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, Graduate Division, UCSF Fresno, University Library, Department of Physical Therapy and Basic Science. This high performing team, in concert with academic and unit leadership, provides direction on significant opportunities including campaign priorities and objectives, school and program naming; capital projects; volunteer leadership boards; and donor stewardship.

This position will be a member of a support team that works collaboratively to provide support in achieving innovative fundraising solutions that align donor interests with leadership's most pressing needs.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Experience planning events
  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and familiarity with communication/publication software including InDesign and Adobe
  • Experience in project management in a complex environment, preferably higher education or healthcare
  • Experience in working with volunteers to accomplish programmatic goals
  • Good written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and listening skills
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • High level of professionalism
  • Excellent customer service skills and customer focus

Preferred Qualifications


  • Minimum 2 - 3 years of experience working in development or other non-profit areas, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and ability to apply those principles to secure philanthropic support from potential donors. Working knowledge of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
  • Experience working with donor databases or CRM systems
