DOC Headquarters - Tumwater, Washington

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Fiscal Analyst 1 at the Department of Corrections Headquarters in Tumwater, Washington. This position's primary objective is to ensure accurate and timely payment processing (travel reimbursements) to the Agency's employees.

Duties

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform in depth financial review and analysis of travel reimbursements and travel advances.
  • Act as agency subject matter expert and provide agency wide professional level support for travel related questions per policies and procedures.
  • Train and assist agency staff and managers with travel issues and processes.
  • Make decisions on proper transaction codes usage for AFRS payments and corrections.
  • Analyze, verify, and correct accounting data into the Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS).
  • Upload batches prepared and submitted by fiscal staff, verifying the accuracy of information entered.
  • Monitor and maintain AFRS error file, notifying batch originators of errors. Be a resource to staff to determine appropriate corrections.
  • Be aware of blanket approvals and exceptions made.
  • Collect outstanding travel balances by reaching out to employees and/or sending for payroll deduction.
  • Assist reconciling travel advances.
  • Prepare payment batches.
  • Track predictable monthly recurring payments and submits monthly accrual information by deadline.
  • Maintain filing system for travel batches and receipts.
  • Follow record retention schedule to ensure prompt retrieval of records for review, investigative purposes, and historical data.
  • Process CAFR related entries.
  • Provide information and assistance to Business Managers, Local Business Advisors, Budget Office, and other DOC staff.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Accounting 201 and Accounting 202 from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent
  • One year of relevant experience. Relevant experience is defined as Fiscal Technician 2 or above level work.
  1. Provided that a candidate possesses a degree focused on accounting or business management/administration: an AA degree can be equivalent to 1 year required work experience, and BA degree or above can be equivalent to 2 years of required work experience. Equivalencies to be reviewed by Comptroller/designee, degrees outside of focused areas will NOT count towards experience requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A business focused Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent, with minimum 20 accounting credits to include Accounting 201, 202, 203 and Governmental Accounting.

Telework Details

This position may be eligible to telework after initial in-office training is complete. Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility as business requires.
