The Office for the Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination (OPHD) is responsible for ensuring the University provides an environment for students, faculty, and staff that is free from discrimination and harassment on the basis of protected categories. OPHD's mission is to educate the entire UC San Diego community about these issues and to assist with prevention efforts, and prompt and effective resolution of all complaints. OPHD provides analysis and guidance in all areas pertaining to institutional compliance with federal and state laws, and University of California nondiscrimination policies. Reporting directly to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, OPHD conducts civil rights investigations and guides senior campus leadership in all Vice Chancellor areas, including Health Sciences and the Medical Center. POSITION OVERVIEWThe Senior Complaint Resolution Officer - Health (Sr. CRO) reports to the Associate Director and Deputy Title IX Officer - Health within the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD). Under general direction, the Senior CRO - Health assumes major responsibility for complaint resolution and investigations that respond to informal and formal complaints of harassment and discrimination of individuals in protected categories. Drawing on a strong legal background and expertise in UC and UC San Diego policies, the incumbent is one of the lead health resources for matters pertaining to harassment and discrimination. They provide sound legal analysis and development of local policies and guidelines; mandated reporting; investigations and complaint resolution; and the development of associated trainings and briefings for leadership. The incumbent addresses formal and informal complaints and inquiries, assesses concerns, and consults with the university senior leadership. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in the intake, informal and formal investigations, and resolution of complaints and in establishing strategies for the resolution of identified problems. They provide impartial consultation, conflict resolution, and problem solving in response to informal and formal complaints and inquiries received from members of the health communities and affiliates including faculty, staff, students, and parents. They recommend to the Associate Director - Health and Director of OPHD, where appropriate, directly to health administrators or other individuals changes to policies and procedure to insure institutional equity and fairness and adherence to federal and state laws. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance with UC, UC San Diego and Federal regulations and policies, including, but not limited to, Title IX. The incumbent provides complaint resolution and investigations to new and complex cases, as well as performs dispute resolution and training program development, and legal research and analysis for OPHD matters pertaining to equal opportunity, discrimination, and sex offense prevention and provides analytical support for special projects. The incumbent develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates education programs regarding harassment and discrimination based on protected categories for the UC San Diego Health Sciences and Medical Centers.
