Job Summary

Under moderate supervision, repair, calibrate and maintain medical equipment, instrumentation, and support systems of moderate complexity used in healthcare delivery. Inspect, install, and perform inventory assessments and preventative maintenance of medical equipment. Capable of educating others including clinical staff related to the technical integration of the device/system.

Accountabilities

  • Repairs, installs, maintains, calibrates, and inspects medical equipment and instrumentation, including life support equipment. 20%
  • Performs preventative maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices and systems.20%
  • Diagnoses and corrects system and equipment malfunctions.10%
  • Maintains documentation on new equipment, inspections, and equipment repairs and failures.15%
  • Assists with the evaluation of third party vendors.8%
  • Provides technical assistance and instruction to personnel regarding equipment operation and maintenance.5%
  • Reviews outcomes of preventative maintenance actions and makes recommendations to department staff concerning improvements.5%
  • Provides mentoring to other biomedical equipment technicians5%
  • Acts as lead on projects involving medical equipment when appropriate.10%
  • Participates in at least 1 CQI per year2%

Minimum Requirements

Associate's degree in Electronics or biomedical equipment technology

8 years of Biomedical Technology experience

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

South Carolina DRIVERS LICENSE (Lawson Code SCDL)

In Lieu Of

In lieu of the experience and/or educational requirements indicated above the following combination of education, training and/or experience will be considered an equivalent substitution: Graduation from a military biomedical training program or 5 years experience working in an Engineering department in a large healthcare institution (300+beds) may substitute for the Associate's degree

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Familiarity with medical terminology,anatomy and physiology, arrythmia recognition

Basic level of networking knowledge
