Job Summary

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The 66-bed Adult Hematology / Oncology / Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit is a fast-paced, highly specialized unit located on the eleventh and twelfth floors of Long Hospital. Staff provide exceptional patient-centered care to acutely and chronically ill adults with complex hematological and oncological diagnoses.

Nurses are highly trained to provide multiple treatment modalities, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, peripheral blood/umbilical cord stem cell/bone marrow transplants, and cellular immunotherapy. The staff excels in symptom management and provides compassionate care to patients throughout the various stages of their treatment and recovery.

Nurses are also trained to support Phase I-III clinical research activities on the unit to further develop cutting-edge treatment and care.

Professional development of the staff is supported through participation in classes, seminars, and conferences as well as unit councils, quality improvement projects and community activities.

Required Qualifications


  • Minimum of one year recent RN experience in Adult Inpatient Oncology or one year recent RN experience in Pediatric Inpatient Oncology, or one year recent RN experience in an Outpatient Infusion Clinic
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications


  • Clinical RN experience in an academic medical center Acute Care Hematology/Oncology/BMT unit
  • BSN
  • Telemetry experience

License/Certification


  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
