Job Description

U. S. Steel has an immediate opening for a Software Engineer within the Process Control Rolling and Finishing division located at Great Lakes Works. As an integral part of this highly skilled, innovative team, you will play a significant role in supporting our digital transformation and system modernization strategy while providing critical services to our production operations. The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for the design, development, testing and implementation of digital solutions and process control systems. We are seeking a bright, innovative leader with the technical skills, energy, and ambition to help shape the future for Great Lakes Works. Responsibilities:
* Contribute to and support our digital transformation by participating in the design, development, configuration, and deployment of digital solutions
* Participate in, and / or lead high impact projects that provide financial benefits and result in improvements to safety, quality, and / or production yield
* Work closely with the operations teams to understand requirements and identify improvement opportunities; translate into project specifications, including work estimates and forecasted benefits* Design and maintain highly available and error resistant applications and systems that support Great Lakes Works* Play a key role in the new design and maintenance of modern supervisory systems.

Preferred Skills

Ideal candidate:
Bachelors Degree with 1 - 2 years experience, Process Control Engineer / Developer with minimum of 1-2 years of experience developing in Java, C, C#, R, and/or Python. Knowledge of integrated development environments - Visual Studio, Eclispse, or Netbeans Experience with both Linux/Unix and Windows environments.Development experience on PTC Thingworx IoT, other IoT platform, or creation of a Digital Twin a plusExperience with Tableau a plusExperience in a manufacturing environment desiredDegree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or related fieldEffective oral and verbal communication, team playerInitiative to generate improvement ideasMotivation to maintain a high level of productivity and self-direction Desire to learn established systems for purposes of modernization and support
